Nitpicking Nerds
By Nitpicking Nerds on Cube Cobra
A cube for fair, interactive four-player Commander games where combat decides who wins.
How a cube works
-
1
Draft or open packs
Draft together: everyone online at once takes 2 cards from a pack and passes the rest, 3 packs of 20. Or open 7 packs of 18 cards on your own and get 6 commanders. Either way the cards come from one shared cube, so nobody gets the same card.
-
2
Pick your commander
Any two mono-colored legends can lead together, so two of them make a two-color deck. A single mono-colored commander leaves you short of cards. Opened sealed packs? You can redeal your 6 commanders once, before a card goes into your deck.
-
3
Build 60 cards
You build only from what you opened, plus free basic lands. Plan on two colors, about 36 to 39 spells and 21 to 24 lands, commander included.
-
4
Play it
Start a game on Playgroup Live and turn on Play with the cube. Your deck is yours until an admin closes the cube.
About this cube
Cards that win on their own or leave one player far ahead are left out, in favor of cards of similar strength that reward building around them. Knocking a player out should cost you something.
Decks are 60 cards, commander included, and follow your commander's color identity. Most decks end up in two colors. The ten three-color commanders let you combine two pairs or add a third color.
Every mono-colored legend can partner with another, so two single-color commanders make a two-color deck.
The cube was built for drafting. Here your playgroup can draft it together, or everyone opens sealed packs on their own.
Anyone who ends a draft without a commander gets two Prismatic Pipers. They partner like any two mono-colored commanders, so you can build in any two colors.
Rules
- Build a 60-card deck, commander included.
- Everyone starts at 40 life.
- 21 commander damage from a single commander knocks a player out.
- Every card has to fit your commander's color identity.
- Any two mono-colored or colorless legends can share command as partners.
- Everyone opens 7 packs of 18 cards and is dealt 6 commanders, and may redeal those commanders once.
- Drafting: 3 packs of 20 cards with 2 commanders in each. Take 2 cards and pass the rest until every pack is empty. With 2 drafters everyone drafts 5 packs, with 3 drafters 4.
- Drafted no commander? You get two Prismatic Pipers, which partner like any mono-colored pair.
- Basic lands are unlimited.
- Your first mulligan is free, then each one puts a card on the bottom.
- Each sealed pack holds 3 white, 3 blue, 3 black, 3 red, 3 green, 1 multicolored, and 2 colorless or lands.
