Play Commander online, your way

A free in-browser virtual tabletop for 2-6 player Commander. No install, voice and text chat built in.

Private or public tables

Start a game now or schedule one for later. Keep the lobby private and share the link, or open it up and let anyone join. Set a bracket so everyone turns up at the right power level, and see the win odds update as players take their seats.

Commander-native

Built for Commander from day one, 2 to 6 players per pod. Commander damage, command zone, partners, mulligans, the stack.

Runs in your browser

No install, no launcher. Open a link on desktop and you are in. Tablet play is in beta, and phones play too on a dedicated landscape board.

Virtual Tabletop

What does the virtual tabletop support?

Drag cards between every zone you expect. Tap, flip, transform, attach, counter, token, and target. Clean animations and a layout that keeps the board readable even when it gets busy.

  • All the zones Hand, Battlefield, Graveyard, Exile, Library, Command Zone, and a dedicated Stack zone.
  • Tap, flip, transform, phase Clean flip and transform on double-faced cards. Phase-out and phase-in fully supported.
  • Equipment and aura attachments Attached cards live on a dedicated shelf next to the creature they enchant.
  • Marquee select Drag-select multiple permanents and tap, move, or token them at once.
  • Target arrows Draw arrows on screen so the whole table sees what you are pointing at.
  • Hidden information enforced Morph, disguise, manifest, and foretell stay face down. Face-down exile with per-player reveal permissions, and the server keeps hidden zones hidden.
Card Language

Every player sees the cards in their own language

Pick a card language in the board settings and the table changes just for you. Card images become translated printings, and the card detail view and deck search follow. Everyone else at the table keeps their own language. Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese in both scripts. Any card without a translated printing stays in English.

One card, as each seat sees it:

Lightning Bolt en Foudre fr Fulmine it Relámpago es Blitzschlag de Raio pt 稲妻 ja 벼락 ko Удар Молнии ru 闪电击 zhs 閃電擊 zht
Deck Import

Which decks can I import?

Import from Archidekt or Moxfield and your decks are ready to play. Primers expand inline on the lobby card so the rest of the table can read what you are bringing. If you just want to paste in a decklist that's always an option as well.

Solo Playtesting

Test a brew before you bring it to the table

Start a solo session and goldfish any deck: draw, mulligan, play out your turns, undo freely. No opponents needed, and no account needed to try it. Then turn on Sparring and the empty seat starts fighting back.

  • Phantom opponents that react A phantom opponent counters your spells, removes your threats, and wraths your board, at a cadence measured from thousands of real recorded games.
  • Light, Realistic, or Cutthroat Pick how hard the table pushes back. Off by default, so a plain goldfish stays a plain goldfish.
  • Every reaction explains itself When something fires, you are told why, and you decide whether you had an answer for it.
Replay & Spectating

The game does not disappear when it ends

Rewatch any finished game move by move. Step through every play from turn zero, or hit play and let it run to the exact board the game ended on. Replays are full reveal, so you finally get to see what everyone was holding, what they drew, and the answer they never found.

  • One Supporter unlocks the whole pod If any one player at the table has a Supporter Pack, that game's replay unlocks for everyone who played it. You do not need to pay to rewatch your own games, as long as someone at the table chipped in.
  • Anyone can watch a public game No account needed to spectate. Pull up a chair, and pinch-zoom any card to read it, on a phone as well as a desktop.
  • Listen in, or ask to speak Join the table's voice chat to follow along. Log in and ask to speak, and the host can put you on the mic. Players see who is watching.
Stats Integration

Every game counts toward your stats

Playgroup Live runs on the same platform as the Playgroup.gg tracker app. Same account, same playgroup, same data. Play online or at the kitchen table, everything lands in one place.

  • ELO leaderboards Update the moment a game ends.
  • Per-deck stats Win rate, estimated power level, and arch-enemies.
  • Achievements & history Roll in automatically, no manual logging required.
  • Playscore leagues Run a season across Live games and in-person games together.
  • Global player leaderboard Play pickup games against strangers and watch your global rank move on the result screen.
  • Rate the Table When a game ends, the group picks the winner, records how it was won, rates the game for fun, salts the decks that earned it, and crowns a Card of the Game.
Deck Building Intelligence

Know which cards are pulling their weight

Card Insights tracks every card you draw, cast, and win with across real games, then tells you what to cut and what to keep. The more you play, the sharper the recommendations get.

Card Insights showing per-card win rate impact, dead draws, and cast-on-curve analysis
Dead draw detection Cards you draw but rarely cast. If a card sits in your hand across multiple games, the data shows it.
Win rate impact per card See how your win rate changes when a specific card hits the battlefield versus when it does not.
Cast-on-curve analysis Measures how often your non-land cards land on the turn their mana cost suggests. A low score points to ramp or curve problems.
Best opening hand cards Win rates broken down by which cards were in your opening seven, so you know what to keep on a mulligan.
MTG Simulator

Looking for an MTG Commander simulator?

Playgroup Live is a full Commander simulator that runs in your browser. It simulates the whole game: every zone, the stack, commander damage, tokens, and hidden information the server keeps hidden. Practice a deck solo against a Sparring phantom opponent, or sit a real 2 to 6 player pod with voice chat. Nothing to download, and the solo simulator needs no account.

Frequently Asked

How do I play Commander online?
Create a free Playgroup.gg account, or try the solo demo with no account. Import your deck by pasting a list or an Archidekt or Moxfield link, start a lobby, and share the link with your group. Two to six players join from a desktop browser, or a tablet in our touch beta, with built-in voice chat and every Commander rule handled automatically.
How can I play Commander online for free?
Playgroup Live is free. There is no purchase or subscription to play a full Commander game online, and it runs in your browser with no install. A free account lets you host or join multiplayer tables, and the solo demo needs no account at all.
What is the best way to play Commander online with friends?
Share a private lobby link and play in the browser, with no downloads or webcams. Unlike screen share or webcam play, Playgroup Live tracks the full game state for you, including commander damage, the stack, and hidden zones, and every game feeds your shared ELO, stats, and Playscore leagues.
Is Playgroup Live free?
Yes. Playgroup Live is free to play. You need a Playgroup.gg account, which is also free.
How many players can play at once?
Between 2 and 6. Playgroup Live supports duel Commander, standard 4-player pods, and larger tables up to 6 seats.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Playgroup Live runs in any modern desktop browser, and tablet play is now in beta. Open the lobby link and you are in.
Which decks can I import?
Any deck. Paste a plain-text decklist, or import directly from an Archidekt or Moxfield URL. You are not required to keep your deck on a third-party site.
Can I play with strangers or only with my playgroup?
Both. Open a private lobby and share the link with your playgroup, or make the lobby public so anyone looking for a game can join.
Does every game count toward my stats?
Yes. Games finished on Playgroup Live flow into the same ELO, per-deck stats, and Playscore leagues as games tracked with the Playgroup.gg mobile app.
Can I schedule a game for later?
Yes. Pick a date and time up to seven days out. Other players can sign up ahead of time, and the lobby opens automatically at the scheduled time. You can schedule private playgroup sessions or public games that anyone can join.
Can I practice a deck by myself?
Yes. Start a solo session to goldfish a deck. You get draw phases, mulligans, undo, and the event log. No opponents needed. Turn on Sparring and a phantom opponent will push back, countering your spells, removing your threats, and wrathing the board at a cadence measured from thousands of real games.
Can I rewatch a game after it ends?
Yes. Open Watch Replay on a finished game to step through every play from turn zero, or let it run. Replays are full reveal, so you see every hand and every draw. A replay unlocks when anyone who played in that game holds a Supporter Pack, and it unlocks for the whole table, not just for them.
Can I watch other people play?
Yes. Public games can be spectated by anyone, with no account needed. Join the voice chat to listen to the table, or log in and ask the host to let you speak. Spectating works on a phone, not just a desktop.
Can I play face-down cards like morph, disguise, and foretell?
Yes. Morph, disguise, manifest, and foretell all play face down, and opponents never see the card. You can exile cards face down, group exile into piles like Jeska's Will, and reveal a hidden card to a specific player while staying its owner. The server keeps hidden zones hidden, so there is no honor system to trust.
Can I make a private game or does everyone join?
You choose. Keep the lobby private and share the link with your group, or toggle it to public so anyone browsing can join. This applies to both instant and scheduled games.
Can I play with cards in French, German, Japanese, or another language?
Yes. Pick a card language in the board settings and translated printings show just for you: card images, rules text in the card detail view, and deck search. Every player at the same table can use a different language. Playgroup Live supports Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese in simplified and traditional script. Any card that was never printed in your language stays in English.
How does Playgroup Live compare to SpellTable?
Playgroup Live is a full virtual tabletop: you move cards between zones, every Commander mechanic is built in, and hidden zones stay hidden (the server keeps your hand and library secret). SpellTable is webcam-based, so you play with physical cards on camera. Different tools for different tables.
Is Playgroup Live an MTG Commander simulator?
Yes. Playgroup Live simulates a full Commander game in your browser: every zone, the stack, commander damage, tokens, and hidden information that stays hidden. Use it as a solo simulator to goldfish a deck or spar against a phantom opponent, or play real multiplayer games with 2 to 6 players and voice chat. Nothing to download, and the solo simulator needs no account.
