Cube draft and sealed for Commander

A cube is one fixed list of cards that a group drafts or opens packs from. On Playgroup, your playgroup gets its cards from one shared cube, everyone builds a 60-card Commander deck from what they got, and you play those decks on Playgroup Live. Drafting, building and playing all happen in the browser, and it is free.

Two ways to get your cards

Open packs on your own

Everyone opens their own packs whenever they like, then builds. Nobody needs to be online at the same time.

Best for a group spread over time zones or busy weeks. Members who join later can still open packs while the cube has cards left.

Draft together

Everyone is online at once. You take 2 cards from a pack and pass the rest, and each pick has a clock, so nobody waits on one slow player.

Best for a game night. A playgroup admin opens the draft room, and you build from your picks when the draft ends.

How it works

  1. 1

Start a cube in your playgroup

Any member can start a sealed cube from the playgroup page. A playgroup admin can open a draft room instead.

  2. 2

    Get your cards

Open your own packs, or draft them live with the group. You build only from what you got, plus free basic lands.

  3. 3

    Build your deck

Build a 60-card deck in our deck builder. Add lands fills your basic lands to the count the cube recommends.

  4. 4

    Play it on Playgroup Live

Once two or more decks are ready, start a game from New game and turn on Play with the cube.

Questions

What is a cube in Magic?
A cube is one fixed list of cards, usually one copy of each, that a group drafts or opens packs from instead of buying boosters. Every game draws from the same list, so you know what can show up.
How does Commander sealed work?
Each player opens their own packs from the cube and is dealt a few legends to choose a commander from. On Classic Commander that is 7 packs of 18 cards and 6 commanders. You build only from those cards, plus free basic lands.
Can you do a draft for Commander?
Yes. On Nitpicking Nerds every drafter gets 3 packs of 20 cards, and every pack holds 2 legends, so everyone can find a commander. You take 2 cards a pick and pass the rest, then build from your picks.
How many lands should a cube deck run?
Each cube recommends its own count. Classic Commander: 25 and Nitpicking Nerds: 21 to 24. In the deck builder, Add lands fills your basic lands up to that number, split by the mana symbols in your deck.
How do you draft Magic online with friends?
Join the same playgroup on Playgroup. A playgroup admin opens a draft room for a cube that drafts, everyone takes a seat, and the draft runs live with a clock on every pick. Then everyone builds in our deck builder and you play the games on Playgroup Live, all in the browser.
How many people do you need?
For sealed, one player is enough to open packs, and a game needs two ready decks. A cube deals as many full pools as its cards allow; the number is listed with each cube. A draft takes 2 to 12 players at once.
Can two people draft?
Yes. Two drafters each draft 5 packs instead of 3, so both still end up with enough cards for a deck.
How long does a cube draft take?
3 packs take at most 13 minutes on Quick, 22 minutes on Standard and 33 minutes on Relaxed, if every pick runs out its clock. Building and the games come after.
Does it cost anything?
No. Starting a cube, drafting, building and playing cost nothing, and there are no prizes.
What happens to our decks?
Your deck is yours while the cube is open, and you can play it as often as you like. When a playgroup admin closes the cube, its decks retire. Cube games never count toward the public stats on Playgroup.
