Reality Fracture releases on October 2, 2026. It is the climax of Magic's Jace-centered story arc. Jace Beleren, now calling himself the Theorist, has built the Echoverse: a reproduction of every plane in the Multiverse with the Phyrexians, the Eldrazi, and Nicol Bolas excised from history. Wizards' Planeswalker's Guide to Reality Fracture confirms the setting is Echoverse Arcavios, where Hexhaven Academy stands in for Strixhaven with five allied-color schools: Fatehold (WU), Theorix (UB), Stingerquill (BR), Konstrari (RG), and Vigorbloom (GW).

Reality Fracture ships a single Commander deck. Multiverse Reforged is a four-color (WUBR) 100-card deck led by a new version of Jace Beleren, built around replacing tokens with alternate-reality versions of familiar Magic creatures. It contains 18 new-to-Magic cards, two of them traditional foil, alongside 88 reprints. When the full decklist is revealed, the precon below gets playrate, win rate, ELO, average game length, and a one-click Playtest in Playgroup Live button.

Five more Commander decks arrive on the same day under a different brand. The Foundations Commander Decks are single-color starter precons aimed at players new to Commander: Calling All Angels (Giada, Font of Hope), Keen Engineering (Sai, Master Thopterist), Wretched Ranks (Ghoulcaller Gisa), Reign of Dragons (Lathliss, Dragon Queen), and Tramplesaurus Rex (Ghalta, Primal Hunger). They are not part of the Reality Fracture product lineup and have their own spotlight page.

The September 8 debut put the echoed-pair design on the table. Chandra, Torch of Defiance is mirrored by the mono-blue Chandra, Chill of Compliance; Garruk, Curse Breaker by the mono-black Garruk, Veiled Butcher; Ajani Resolute by the mono-red Ajani Unrelenting; Tinybones, Pocket Nuisance by the mono-green Titanbones, Towering Heart; Ghalta the Unstoppable by the mono-white Ghalta the Immovable; and Jiang Yanggu, Never Alone by the mono-red Jiang Yanggu, Alone. Liliana appears as two legendary creatures, Liliana the Faultless and Liliana the Repentant, Karn as two artifact Golems, Karn, Gilded Guardian and Karn, Argent Defender, and Jace's own card is The Theorist, Jace Beleren. The debut also revealed the set's new mechanic, Empower Jace, which puts loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token, and the five elder sphinxes who founded Hexhaven's schools, each a legendary creature in its school's two colors. The five allied-color slow lands from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt and Crimson Vow return at rare. Collector treatments include shattered mirror cards, facet foils, and a serialized Bloodline Recollector limited to 500 copies, illustrated by Mark Poole and found only in English Collector Boosters.

Set codes on Scryfall: FRA (main set) and FRC (Commander precons). Card previews run September 8 through September 17, the story began August 31, 2026, prerelease events run September 25 through October 1, 2026, and the set arrives on MTG Arena on September 29. Card spoilers on this page update daily from Scryfall as previews continue.

Reality Fracture Card Preview Schedule

Card previews run from September 8 through September 17, 2026, finishing before the September 25 prerelease. Wizards published the full spoiler schedule in Where to Find Reality Fracture Previews.

  • September 8: the set debut streams on YouTube and Twitch, unveiling the first cards and the set's new mechanics. A Making Magic design article and WeeklyMTG run the same day.
  • September 9 to 15: daily previews from Wizards' partner outlets and content creators across YouTube, Bilibili, and social media.
  • September 16: Commander previews. Multiverse Reforged is previewed on the Magic: The Gathering YouTube channel.
  • September 17: the final preview day.
  • September 18: the complete Card Image Gallery publishes.

The official Reality Fracture Card Image Gallery updates every weekday morning once previews begin, carrying the cards revealed the previous day and earlier but not the same day. This page reads Scryfall instead, so spoiled cards land on the Reality Fracture card list here within 24 hours, newest first, covering both FRA and FRC.

Previews opened ahead of the schedule with the July 2026 First Look, which introduced the Echoverse and the echoed-pair design, and the Planeswalker's Guide to Reality Fracture followed with the plane, the Theorist, and the five Hexhaven schools. The September 8 debut then revealed around 45 main-set cards in one go: the Empower Jace mechanic, the five elder sphinxes, six more echoed pairs, and the slow-land reprints. Commander cards have already started to surface too, but only one so far: the first FRC card on Scryfall is a Darksteel Angel reprint. The full Multiverse Reforged decklist and the deck's Jace face commander are not public until the September 16 Commander previews, and the precon below fills in as they land.

The Five Schools of Hexhaven Academy

Hexhaven Academy is the Echoverse counterpart of Strixhaven, built into the Theorist's Tower on Echoverse Arcavios. Where Strixhaven's colleges were enemy-color pairs, Hexhaven's five schools are allied pairs, each founded by an elder sphinx that emerged from the leyline confluence beneath the tower. Cadets train as battlemages rather than scholars, because the wasteland surrounding the tower, the Eradia, is crawling with mage hunters and witchstalkers.

Fatehold (WU) is the School of Future History, teaching divination and prophecy. Theorix (UB) is the School of Esoteric Mathematics, bending reality with arcane equations and portals. Stingerquill (BR) is the School of Painful Words, training battlepoets and curse-writers. Konstrari (RG) is the School of Constructive Arts, animating puppetbeasts with crystallized heartwood. Vigorbloom (GW) is the School of Invasive Healing, grafting plant matter directly into flesh. Each school has a spoiled hybrid-mana card confirming its colors: Prudent Fateseer, Paradox Shaper, Stingerquill Voxmancer, Woodwork Prodigy, and Vigorbloom Vanguard.

The five founding sphinxes are all mythic legendary creatures, so each school has a ready-made commander. Denzilore Fatehold (WU) has flash and puts a +1/+1 counter on each of your creatures whenever you scry or surveil. Uldaros Theorix (UB) exiles one nonland card of each type from your graveyard on entry and casts copies of them for free up to six total mana value. Ingris Stingerquill (BR) pings each opponent whenever one of your creatures attacks and makes 2/2 Cadet tokens with haste. Aerid Konstrari (RG) creates Heartwood mana artifacts on entry and death, then grows with your artifact count. Kwia Vigorbloom (GW) makes a Lotus token once per turn whenever you gain life, which sacrifices for three mana of one color.

What Is Prepared in Reality Fracture?

Prepared debuted in Secrets of Strixhaven and returns in Reality Fracture. A Prepared card has a creature face and a spell face. While the creature is prepared, you may cast a copy of its spell, and doing so unprepares it. The creature stays on the battlefield either way, so the mechanic is a repeatable spell engine attached to a body.

Wizards' mechanics article spells out how the copy works: when the creature becomes prepared, a copy of its spell appears in exile, you cast it like any other spell, and the copy ceases to exist if the creature leaves the battlefield or becomes unprepared. Only one copy exists per prepared creature at a time.

Spoiled cards prepare in three different ways. Prudent Fateseer, Vigorbloom Vanguard, Diviner of Victory, and Pompous Battlemage enter the battlefield prepared. Paradox Shaper, Stingerquill Voxmancer, and Woodwork Prodigy become prepared at the beginning of your upkeep if they are not prepared already. Bloodline Recollector becomes prepared at the beginning of each end step if three or more creatures died that turn.

What Is Empower Jace?

Empower Jace is the set's new mechanic, and it appears in every color. Empower Jace N means: put N loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token you control. If you do not control one, first create a blue Jace planeswalker token with "−1: Surveil 1" and "−3: Draw a card", then add the counters. The token is not legendary, so anything that copies tokens can give you more than one.

The numbers scale from Empower Jace 1 on cheap spells like No Admittance and Countersculpt to Empower Jace 8 on Jace's Machinations, and the token pays off with cards that give planeswalkers extra loyalty abilities: Way of the Cryomancer adds a −3 that copies your next instant or sorcery, Way of the Pyromancer adds a +1 for red mana, and Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes adds a −10 that puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature per land you control. A few cards also ask you to behold a Jace, which means choosing a Jace you control or revealing a Jace card from your hand, as on Countersculpt and the Theorist's Sanctum land.

Reality Fracture Prerelease Guide

Prerelease events run September 25 through October 1, 2026 at WPN game stores, the week before the set's October 2 release. Each Prerelease Pack contains six Reality Fracture Play Boosters, a traditional foil promo card, a deck box, and a Spindown die.

The format is Sealed. Build a 40-card deck from your six boosters plus basic lands provided by the store, then play a few short matches. Prerelease is also the first chance to open echoed pairs, which appear in every Play Booster. Find an event through the Wizards store locator.

Two things change with this release. Wizards retired At-Home Prerelease kits globally, so Reality Fracture Prerelease is an in-store event, and Two-Headed Giant teams now receive one Prerelease Pack plus two Play Boosters instead of two Prerelease Packs.

Reality Fracture In-Store Events

WPN stores run a full event season from release through November 5, 2026. Two Commander Party windows are scheduled, October 9 to 15 and October 23 to 29, with one event per window and Crystal Ball as the Commander promo. Two-Headed Giant Commander Night runs monthly across the same season and carries the same Crystal Ball promo.

The rest of the calendar is constructed and limited. Store Championship runs October 9 through November 5, with promos still to be announced. Magic Presents: Reality Echoes runs October 16 to November 5 and awards a Reality Fracture set symbol pin to winners. Magic Presents: All Leylines' Eve runs October 30 to November 5 with Leyline of Anticipation as the participation promo. Standard Showdown is weekly with Tragic Trajectory as the winner promo, and Magic Academy sessions for Learn to Play and Deck Building run unlimited through the season.

Why Reality Fracture Has Only One Commander Deck

Recent expansions have shipped two to five Commander precons. Reality Fracture ships one. Lead designer Gavin Verhey has said the team chose a single deck built around the set's villain because players responded better to one distinctive deck than to a spread of decks repeating familiar themes.

That constraint is what produced the four-color WUBR identity, a combination Commander precons almost never use. Verhey also noted the Commander deck is where Wizards can print Echoverse characters who cannot appear in the main set, which requires cards in echoed pairs, including characters already dead in Magic's story.

Reality Fracture Draft Night

Draft Night is a four-player draft kit built for the Pick-Two format, where each player drafts two cards at a time instead of one. The box holds 12 Reality Fracture Play Boosters, 1 Collector Booster, 90 non-foil basic lands, 10 double-sided tokens, and a draft insert that walks the table through setup.

Spoiled cards become prepared on entry, at the beginning of your upkeep, or on a condition such as three or more creatures dying in a turn.
What is Empower Jace?
Empower Jace N puts N loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token you control. Who is the Theorist in Reality Fracture?
The Theorist is Jace Beleren after he rebuilt himself in the Meditation Realm and carved away the fragments of himself that disagreed with his plan. He is the set's antagonist, running the Echoverse from a sanctum at the top of the Theorist's Tower. His card in the main set is The Theorist, Jace Beleren.
What are the five schools of Hexhaven Academy?
Fatehold (WU), the School of Future History; Theorix (UB), the School of Esoteric Mathematics; Stingerquill (BR), the School of Painful Words; Konstrari (RG), the School of Constructive Arts; and Vigorbloom (GW), the School of Invasive Healing. Each was founded by an elder sphinx, printed as a mythic legendary creature: Denzilore Fatehold, Uldaros Theorix, Ingris Stingerquill, Aerid Konstrari, and Kwia Vigorbloom. Unlike Strixhaven's enemy-color colleges, Hexhaven's schools are allied color pairs.

The first episode released August 31, 2026 on DailyMTG and the Magic Story Podcast, with further episodes running alongside the September card previews ahead of the October 2 tabletop release.

Cards in the main FRA set are Standard legal. The Commander-only cards in the FRC precon decks are Commander, Legacy, and Vintage legal but not Standard.
What is in a Reality Fracture Prerelease Pack?

Prerelease events run September 25 through October 1, 2026 at WPN game stores. At-Home Prerelease kits were retired globally with this release, so Prerelease is an in-store event.

Are the Foundations Commander Decks part of Reality Fracture?
No. They release on the same day, October 2, 2026, but under a separate Foundations brand rather than the Reality Fracture Commander line, and they are not listed in the Reality Fracture product lineup. Multiverse Reforged is the only Reality Fracture Commander deck (set code FRC). The five single-color Foundations decks are Calling All Angels led by Giada, Font of Hope; Keen Engineering led by Sai, Master Thopterist; Wretched Ranks led by Ghoulcaller Gisa; Reign of Dragons led by Lathliss, Dragon Queen; and Tramplesaurus Rex led by Ghalta, Primal Hunger. They have their own spotlight page on Playgroup.
Why does Reality Fracture only have one Commander deck?

When does Reality Fracture come to MTG Arena?
Reality Fracture arrives on MTG Arena on September 29, 2026, three days before the October 2 tabletop release and during the September 25 to October 1 prerelease window.
