Foundations Commander Decks

The Foundations Commander Decks release on October 2, 2026, the same day as Reality Fracture. There are five of them, one per color, and Wizards has framed them as an entry point for players moving into Commander for the first time. Despite the name they are not part of the 2024 Foundations core set. They sit closer to the 2022 Starter Commander Decks: single-color, 100 cards, one clear archetype each.

Calling All Angels plays Angels behind Giada, Font of Hope. Keen Engineering builds artifacts and Thopters with Sai, Master Thopterist. Wretched Ranks goes wide on Zombies with Ghoulcaller Gisa. Reign of Dragons ramps into Dragons with Lathliss, Dragon Queen. Tramplesaurus Rex casts oversized creatures with Ghalta, Primal Hunger. Every face commander below is deep-linked into Playgroup's stats pages with playrate, win rate, ELO, and average game length, plus a one-click Playtest in Playgroup Live button once decklists publish.

Each box holds a ready-to-play 100-card deck with a traditional foil face card, 10 double-sided tokens, a deck box, a strategy insert, and a reference card. Wizards has not announced a Scryfall set code for the line, and full decklists have not been published yet. This page updates as they land.

How the Foundations Commander Decks differ from a normal precon

The seasonal Commander decks that ship with an expansion are two-color or three-color and carry new cards built for that set's mechanics. These five are single-color, built from reprints, and each one commits to a single well-known creature type. That makes them cheaper to learn and easier to upgrade one card at a time, at the cost of the raw power a multicolor precon brings out of the box.

Single-color also means the mana base is close to free. A new player is not punished for keeping a hand or missing a land drop the way a three-color deck punishes them, which is the usual reason a first Commander game goes badly.
